Copyediting for credibility and undistracted reading

Copyediting is the baseline service for a polished final manuscript. When performing this micro-level work, I fix typos, attend to issues of mechanics and syntax, and ensure your writing conforms to your press's style guidelines. I can also format and reconcile your references and citations and always create (and share) a running style sheet to ensure consistency across the entire document.

The result is a clean text for your press and time savings for you. While I address errant commas in your references, spot that "reanimate" appears as "re-animate" on page 37, and consult a past edition of Chicago Manual of Style per your press's requirements, you can return to your research or other writing projects—the work that drew you to academia in the first place.

Line editing for clarity, elegance, and precision

Academic writing can—and, I’d argue, should—be a joy to read. When line editing, I tighten up your prose, vary sentence rhythm and length for flow, and suggest alternative wordings for clarity, all while respecting and retaining your unique voice.

Whether you want to clearly express a difficult concept, smooth out a piece written over multiple years or by multiple authors, or just see your manuscript shine, this next tier of service will bring out the best in your writing.

It is such a treat to see my words and ideas being lifted. You’ve helped craft something that makes me proud. Thank you so much!

I had a wonderful experience working with Jennifer. She offered a range of options for the editing process and tailored her work to my needs. Her editing style is especially helpful for a non-native speaker like me: she explains her edits and at times provides several possible suggestions. I am grateful for her reliability and care!
